And you’ll think the neighbors are okay with your party now, until one intoxicated partygoer decides to blow it and someone makes an anonymous phone call to the police or sheriff’s dept.

Unless you have a license to sell alcohol, you can get into a lot of trouble for selling alcohol to anyone and even more if that person happens to be a minor.

For example, I do not have a license to sell alcohol; I call you up and say I am on my way over; that I am stopping at the liquor store and I ask if you would like me to get you anything. You ask me to pick up a bottle of vodka, which I do. When I get to your house, you reimburse me for the cost of the vodka. Depending on the state, I could be charged with re-selling alcohol without a license.

Do not sell beer or cups to anyone and do not allow minors to drink. Otherwise you can be charged with a number of crimes.

Welcome to college. I would certainly be careful about who you give drinks to. I don’t think you can do anything to get you out of trouble if a minor gets drunk and does something stupid during or after the party. The real question is, why are you worried about this now after 4 years of college?

One option is to charge for entry and hand out cups. If you see someone really young or someone you don’t know, ask for an ID if you are that worried. You can also just ask for Tips instead of money for entry or alcohol.

If you want to cover your butt, make sure you watch out for people who are getting too wasted and cut them off/ensure they don’t drive. Ensuring you have a place to crash for people who get too wasted is also a good way to stay out of trouble and finally providing some taxi service might help as well to ensure drunks get home safe.

Having minors at a party where alcohol is served is all the violation needed to get you cited for contributing. Not to mention that you are responsible for everything that happens at your party. Including some drunk ******* driving home and killing someone in an accident.

To avoid the problems with minors, either not have the party or check ID’s at the door.

First of all, you can sell a cup, but you can’t tell them its for beer, unless you have a liquor license. Second you need to make sure that no minor drinks, but as soon as they do you are legal liable for them, because you purchased the keg.

You would be criminally and civilly liable for providing alcohol to minors and maybe selling liquor without a license. Don’t do it.

Simple, no minors or no booze. Anyone that drinks at your house and later gets hurt or causes trouble while under the influence leaves you open to legal action. Not to mention, who ever heard of anyone so darn cheap that they want to charge for drinks at a party.
