Selling?

Clay M asked:

My mom is talking about selling my 17 week old boxer pup because she is not housebroke yet how do I keep her from selling her? Please dont say “house train her” because I know that would help but it takes time.
I really dont know why you all are on my back here but come on I’m only 15 and have 3 other dogs, 4 horses and a cat to take care of too and yes my mom does understand that training a dog takes time she has yorkies inside plus their puppies when they have them

Are you crate training? That can really help. Stock up on housebreaking and crate training facts and knowledge, so you are armed and ready when she starts complaining about him. Help her see that these things take time, she will learn, and you know how to help her learn.

Yes, puppies take time. You need to UNDERSTAND that puppies are a big commitment. If you weren;t ready, don’t get a dog.

If your mom is considering getting rid of a PUPPY because it isn’t completely potty trained, it may be best for the puppy to go to a different home. Your mother obviously doesn’t understand the basic needs of dogs, and this could prove to be a very miserable existence for the poor dog. Talk to her about giving it to a no-kill breed-specific rescue; they’ll be able to find it the best home.

If that is the reason she gave you, then that is what you will need to do, potty train her. Are you too busy with other things too than spend them with your puppy? Is mom having to do all of the work training the puppy. Tell her you want to go to puppy training classes and follow thru and practice with her daily.

Phone your vet and ask for the names of some dog trainers in your area. A good trainer will teach you and your mom, the owners, how to work with the dog to get this problem solved.

Hopefully, your mom will agree that it’s worth the time and expense to take a class or two from a good trainer before giving up on this dog.

You say that your Pup is already 17 weeks old?
When were YOU going to start training?? At 17 weeks she should have been trained. Where is she going? All over the house?
I think I would have to agree with your Mom.
If you were ready to have a pup you would have known that training takes time and started the minute that pup came into the house. Sorry. But that is My feelings on this matter.

House training does NOT happen overnight, a person that thinks otherwise, is a fool. The only answers that you are going to get are “house train her” and “crate train her”.
If you can’t do either of those, you shouldn’t have a dog!

tell her that u would train her or get some pup pads

I don’t know what else to tell you other than get her housebroken.
If you have that many other animals-why would you get another one? If you can’t take care of the puppy, then you shouldn’t have it!

Housebreaking DOES take time, but the more consistent you are with it, the faster your puppy will learn. It only took about 2 weeks for my 13 week old chessie to learn when I first got him. If your mom says he needs to be housebroken, I’m sorry to say it, but that would be your only solution. Mom’s the boss!
